Rhythmic Poetry

Words to the beat of the drum

Tropical music ringing out from the neighbour's house, filling the street with swing and I, as a little girl, dancing at the front door. The beat of Caribbean folklore, which I appreciate even more living overseas in Spain, infused my first poetry collection Voces Mudas. Later the African beats in my dance classes with Marisa Cámara, dance teacher from Guinea Conakry, have left their mark on my collection Bestial. My poetry is always accompanied by the living beat of the drum. With Rhythmic Poetry I share my love for words and their natural rhythms; as natural as breathing or walking in the street.

Lilián in Santa Marta, Colombia

My workshop finds its inspiration in our singers of the Afrocolombian Caribbean when they compose their songs, based on the oral tradition and their daily chores, combined with my own path exploring writing, dance and theatre with my company and shows, Afrolyrics. I want to share poetry from this very festive and organic place.

A workshop full of emotion, liberation and rhythm, Thank you for this very healing workshop. How wonderful to use the sounds of the drum for inspiration and to create poems; this symbiosis between the poet and the drummer.
