Creative Workshops for Children

During the pandemic, far from her niece who lives in the United States, Lilián found fun ways to tell stories via video-calls, turning the mobile phone Apps, which obsessed her niece, into elements at the service of the narratives. This revelation has been crucial in the creation of activities for children, where play becomes the principal source of communication.

She has given workshops for children during the Artist Residency Juegos al sol ('Play in the Sun') in the Centre for Artist Residencies in Matadero Madrid, painting workshops in schools with the programme Madrid Un libro abierto ('Madrid an Open Book')—finding inspiration in the favourite games of the children—, a writing and audiovisual creation workshop Insta Stories in Casa de la Lectura, the Municipal Library of Segovia, and with the Our Little Roses Poetry Fellowship in the orphanage for girls, Our Little Roses, in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, among others.

My planet

With objects and materials found at home, children create their own artistic worlds to live in. During the process they tell of the meaning of their artwork-world, before journeying around the planets of their companions.

Cielo de océano

Following a series of video-calls during the pandemic, Lilián and Charles gathered together the poems of their niece, Mia Gill, in a collection titled Cielo de océano ('Ocean Sky'). The poem was published on Love in the Time of Covid, in New Zealand. The still is from the new poetry film el mar en calma ('The Calm Sea').

Insta Stories

In this interconnected world, audiovisual language is everywhere. However, it's important to consider creativity through manual activities and play as a complement to technology—writing, interpretation, drawing, sound and image—tool we can use to create our own 'Insta Stories'.

Club 'Play Poetry'

During the club, Escribir Jugando ('Play Poetry'), with the girls of Our Little Roses orphanage in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, Charles and Lilián created the collective poetry film based on the poem 'silencio gris' (Grey Silence), written during the workshops. They also filmed a series of six artistic pedagogical videos to inspire the girls to further poetry creativity.
