Palabras prestadas
Writing workshop
The synergy between the poets Lilián Pallares and Charles Olsen has not only encouraged them in their personal writings, but in the development of community projects to share the enjoyment of the word. In 2011 they created the online project Palabras Prestadas, and have given in-person workshops with young people and families in Matadero Madrid, a poetry and memory laboratory with seniors at the Llar d'Avis Residence for the Elderly, Barcelona, and a poetry walk with members of the social inclusion theatre company Paladio Arte in Segovia, among others.
How does it work?
The workshops can be adapted to the abilities and needs of each group. Underlying them is the playful 'Palabras Prestadas' or Given Words, where everyone writes a text that includes five words proposed by the participants. These words may come from a conversation, a walk, or be inspired by a particular theme.
It is fascinating how the same five words can lead to very different places. During the workshop we focus on different elements of writing, improvisation, reading the poems (or performing them), and the communication within the group.
Who is it for?
The workshops can be adapated to any group regardless of their abilities, age or experience. Schools, companies, residencies for the elderly, associations, prisons, people at risk of social exclusion, communities of all kinds, even professional writers.
